Menu?

Now that we've got the gift thingy solved what about the FOOD?
Are we doing finger foods or meats, vegetables and bread? Or a combination? Jennifer is working on a Honey Baked ham and eggnog. Yum. That's the only specifics that have been mentioned. I'm thinking stuffed mushrooms and hot drummies. Tofu turkey anyone?

I'm in favor of playing games and then having a selection of Dollar General gifts that winners of the games pick from. Every individual that is going to play a game, brings a $2 gift.(candy, socks, nuts, ) In addition to that, we could all put money in the pot and donate to a worthy cause. Judy, Emily and I had talked about the Roane Animal shelter in Janie's name. Jennifer had suggested giving to a drug rehab organization. I think either would honor Janie.

Christmas

Pappy has requested that we not have the "White Elephant" type gift exchange this year. His reason being "We all are getting along so well, I don't want any feelings hurt and this is just too good of an opportunity for someone to get their feelings stepped on". I personally don't think anyone has gotten their feelings hurt during our gift exchanges, we realize it's all in fun. You might end up with the most coveted present or with something that's been re-gifted. So I guess we're up for suggestions on gifts. I'm picking up small, inexpensive gifts for everyone ( spending more on the kids and Memaw and Pappy) which range from salt shakers to steering wheel covers. But I enjoy doing it and Walmart and the Dollar General store love to see me coming. Earl always knows what he's getting from me...good ol' Olvatine. It's our Christmas tradition.

Special Anaranjado del Flor

So I'm out to dinner with my friend Cierra at On The Border, munchin' on a burrito, when a mariachi band walked through the door. Apparently, some mexican kid rented them for his birthday party. They do some standards ("La Bamba", "La Cucaracha") and then, surprisingly, they go into "Orange Blossom Special".

Bradbury in a mexican restaurant.

It was weird.

P.S. We went and saw "Role Models" afterwards. I give it a 8/10

Once I found out Web site registration was only $10, I couldn't resist buying my own name and linking it to a free blogger site (for now). Check out jasonreagan.com. I have no real plans for it now but, like a prospector buying a claim site, you never know what you might dig up in the future. The header photo was taken in front of my house in the 1920s. I just thought it was cool.

The Kinks Possibly Reuniting

I know Earl is a Kinks fan so I thought I'd share this.

"The Kinks start work on comeback

The Kinks have begun writing new songs ahead of a possible reunion, singer Ray Davies has said.

"We've started a little bit of this and that," he told BBC News. But it is too early to judge the quality, he said.

"It depends if there's good music. We want good new music. I'd like to do it as a more collaborative thing than we used to do."

The Kinks were one of the most popular and influential bands of the 1960s, and last performed together in 1996.

In September, Davies said any reunion would also depend on the health of bandmate and brother Dave, who suffered a stroke in 2004. But Dave is currently well, the singer said.

Duets album

The Kinks were responsible for classic '60s hits like You Really Got Me, Sunny Afternoon, Waterloo Sunset and All Day And All Of The Night.

Ray Davies would have to fit a reunion around his solo US tour, an album with a choir and a further album of collaborations.

He is aiming to duet with a range of artists, including Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell, Snow Patrol and some previously unknown talents.

"I don't just want to do usual suspects," he said. "I'd love to do something with Johnny, but I'd like to find new bands. Unsigned even. I usually like the underdogs."

He is also hoping to enlist rock 'n' roll pioneer Chuck Berry.

"I've never met the man but he was one of my heroes as a lyricist," he said. We'll see how it works out - a mixture of Snow Patrol and Chuck Berry. It should be an interesting record." "

First post in FOREVER

I haven't posted anything in a really long time, so I figured I'd chat a little bit with you and maybe share a few photos.

Let's see...hmmmmm....school! Yes! I go to school. Its EASY. Well, for now anyway. I go to Spanish every Monday and Wednesday from 2:40 PM til 4:30 and Music Appreciation Thursdays from 7:00 PM 'til 9:30 (I miss "The Office"!!!) Both classes are easy, with very competent and easy-going teachers. It doesn't hurt that I already had a very good basic knowledge of both subjects.

I recently acquired a second guitar from an antique store, but didn't realize at the time it was JACKED UP! See below:

Now, I'm no expert on guitars, but I'm fairly certain my bridge shouldn't be angled that way. Definitely makes it impossible to tune. So I'm gonna see if Pappy can do something about it. Here's a pic of the guitar with my foot in there for scale:

Speaking of guitars, I go to concerts sometimes!!!

October 18th. Buckethead and That 1 Guy

October 25th. Portugal The Man

Yeah, them was some good shows.

Now, some random photos.

Me and Cozmo at a Dishwater Blonde show

Who is this masked man?

Excited at the Buckethead show

Waiting in anticipation of Portugal The Man

I realize the website cuts some of these pics off because they're so big, but you should be able to right-click and view the image.

Ok, I think I'm done for tonight. Hope you enjoyed this random blog.

Fall Meet

Keeneland was as beautiful as ever, although the crowd was not up to what we've seen in past visits. Rich and Bobbi Avery traveled with us to London where we ate at the great Mexican Restaurant in front of Days Inn. We arrived at Keeneland between 9:30 and 10:00 AM and immediately got our programs. It's such fun being the instructor when your guests have never attended horse racing. Between the Breeder's Cup races and the live Keeneland races we sat through 16 races Saturday and pretty much placed bets on all of them. Todd was our biggest winner, $38.60 return on a $2.00 bet and recouped all of his initial betting with a profit of $23.00. I didn't do as well, but did win $22.00 on the last Breeder's Cup race. Lots of exciting moments... #7 horse with 65 to 1 odds led the entire race, falling back to 4th in the last 5 seconds, Todd had bet him to win. And then Dr. Pleasure with jockey Otto took a tumble after the last turn. The horse immediately jumped up but Otto lay there for a good while before getting back on his feet. The Averys stayed in Lexington the entire weekend visiting some of the more famous, local horse farms. But I think they're hooked, their opinion of Keeneland being " even if you never bet on one horse, Keeneland is worth the drive".

Meemaw Update

Meemaw seems to be doing better. Have talked to her a couple of times today. Latest news is that her furnace isn't turning on, but the heating guy is coming out tomorrow and she has a couple of little heaters. I am taking lunch over tomorrow after physical therapy. I am also checking on exercise at the community center and hospital to see what is available.
Judy deserves the Reagan Badge of Courage for the last few days. Everything fell on her and she got her and meemaw both through. Of course we may be concerned with Judy's drug use after last week!!
I am a little concerned that a week with Jennifer put Meemaw in the hospital, we may have to think before her next visit.
Pappy continues to call me everyday so that I know he is ok.

Available for the first time-The Pappy Interview!

A few years ago, I had an assignment in my American History class to interview a veteran of any war. I, of course, chose Pappy. Some of you requested a transcript of the interview, which I always meant to get around to, but never did. Well, here it is.

To download "Pappy Interview.zip" follow these instructions:

1. Click here

2. Click the button that says "Free User"

3. Wait until the timer counts down and then click the big blue "Download" button.

4. If you are on a PC, right-click the file you just downloaded and click "Extract All"

5. Whenever prompted click "Next", then "Finish".

I'm not sure how Macs handle ZIP files, but I know they can. Jason probably knows how.

Ok, enjoy the interview!
Sometime Monday I will have my knee replacement. I will be at Park West Hospital probably 3 days, coming home on Thursday morning. After that, I will have Homecare Nursing for a few days and physical therapy with Chip Ladd at Star Therapy in Kingston. I dont know the time of my surgery, should find out sometime today. I hope it is early morning. I will be in the hospital register and to check on me you will have to have the "code" 1954.

Gaffigan

Last night we went to the Cobb Energy Center & saw Jim Gaffigan, The Sexy Tour. He was hilarious!!!! Judy, he does a whole routine on "bacon". It was all new stuff, except for his "Hot Pockets" routine. Since he was in Atlanta he did a bit on "Waffle House"......opening up a restaurant in a truck stop bathroom!!

Tip of The Day

Before your wife washes your shirt, always remove your fork from the pocket. Otherwise, you will be picking fork prongs from your washing machine.

Just a little FYI:-)

Friday, August 22, 2008

I am trying to get Meemaw's house ready for her. I have signed the 1 year lease, and am going to go Monday or Tuesday to have power, water, etc. switched to her name. I am wondering if she has informed Pappy of this move. She is going to have to if she wants her money to continue to flow. Jason has the truck all lined up and I am going to try to get window coverings of some sort up next week. She will have to take her own trash to the convenience center, but she passes one on Swan Pond every time she goes to town.
There is a neighbor guy who cuts other yards for $50, I'm going to see if he will take care of hers also.
Will let everyone know as things develop.

Update

I haven't posted in some time so here's the latest.

1. Nearly two years after my cycling crash, I finally got my bike fixed up and have taken to the road again. Meemaw about flipped out when I showed up at her house unannounced last night.

2. Here is an essay by me (last entry) about my geekiness: click here

3. Here's a photo from last weekend's emergency fest at ASU.

4. Here's another photo of the kids on the last day of drama camp at the Blowing Rock Stage Company. Their teacher for the week was John D'Aquino, who plays the President on the Disney Channel show "Cory in the House." You guys may know him as Todd Gack, a boyfriend of Elaine's in the Seinfeld episode "The Calzone."

Basketball in Cleveland

Corey played in a basketball extravaganza sponsored by Truit McConnell(sp) Sat. He played with the WHHS JV team, where he has been involved in bball camp. They started at 8:30 am, Ray & I went up and got to see him in about the last 10 min of their 3rd game. They left the gym at the end of the game to go to the locker room(or so we thought), so we sat there and watched Hart Co. play somebody, waiting for Corey's team to rest and come out for their 4th & final game. They had left the gym and gone to another gym to play, so Ray & I sat & watched someone else while Corey was playing another game at another gym! Anyway his team was 2-2 for the day. He said the JV team beat a varsity team. They do it all again next Sat., but at least we know now if he leaves the gym to follow him. By the way, Earl, if you are ever in Cleveland, Ga, go by the Cleveland Donut shop and the Dixie Diner!!(it was a free day!)

Recipe worth sharing

This is Andrea's slow cooker chicken recipe that is just too good and too easy not to share. Sorry Tyler, no bacon involved.

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts or tenderloins
1 jar salsa (recommend Walmart's black bean, corn salsa)

Place in slow cooker and cook til meat separates easily and sauce thickens.
Andre'a served it on steamed rice.
I have it in my slow cooker right now, so guess what Pappy's leftovers will include tonight.

Here is Tyler's dress rehearsal...not for him , just to see how much I actually cry when I see him in his cap & gown!! He even went and got a haircut today!!

News from Japan

Exedy, a company who manufactures race car clutches, has recruited Jeremy to teach "Engrish" at their plant in Ueno. Their Japanese headquarters is in Osaka but they also have a plant in Mascot outside of Knoxville. He and I are hoping this will include some visits to the plant in Knoxville. Yea!!

GRADUATION WEEKEND !

We plan to get to Flowery Branch sometime late evening on Friday. Our departure from Kingston depends on what time Sara can leave school and what time Earl can get home from Murfresboro
Judy is riding with us unless we leave too late and she has to head out to start partying!

We are staying at the Winngate at the Mall. (Earl has free room). We plan to eat early at Larry's on Saturday morning , then I believe Earl intends to continue eating until we leave or he explodes whichever comes first.

We will leave sometime Saturday after the festivities have died down. I will probably have to drive home as Earl will not be able to fit under the steering wheel.

Tyler, I am still searching for that perfect graduation gift. I'm thinking some really nice dress clothes(button-up shirts, etc.) I hope I can find just the right outfits for you.

Jason called me last night and he was planning to get a room at the Wingate across from Mall of Georgia. That's where Earl and I have a room. I suppose Sara will stay with us, and Marty if he comes. Jason said something about getting two rooms, so Meemaw may be planning on staying at Wingate,???
Earl and I are planning on going to Boone on Friday and staying thru Sunday. Joel mentioned something about going also, but don't know if he will or not.

We plan to get there sometime Friday afternoon.

New Post

I'm posting something new because I'm tired of looking at Meemaw's cat!!!! We have nothing new going on here. Tyler is, so far so good, on his increased meds. He has been a little sleepy but that is to be expected until his body absorbs or adjusts to the new dosage. Ray went to Nashville this week he came home on Thurs.
So far on the graduation news I have:Judy-1 tkt, staying @ my house, Joyce -2 tkts, hotel, Joel-4 tkts,@my house, Jason-4 tkts, hotel(??), Meemaw-1 tkt, @ my house, Sara-2tkts-hotel(????). Doesn't matter where anyone stays, Ray has slept with all of you anyway!! I thought it might be fun to go to Dave & Busters Sat pm???? Tyler has to be at rehearsal @8am Sat.

Meemaw and Co.

Meemaw has added a roommate.

Her name is Lucinda and she comes from the local Humane Society.

She's settling in nicely at the trailer and seems very affectionate.

Also, Meemaw was invited to have lunch with her friend, Jackie, who operates a local Chinese restaurant, on Saturday.

Jackie is pregnant and they also went shopping for maternity clothes. Just for a moment, imagine Meemaw walking through a store with a woman who barely understands English...the makings of a new Lifetime comedy series, perhaps.

Graduation

Finally I have details. Tyler's graduation is Sat am, May 24th @ 10:00. I will be sending out his invitations, we have 6 tkts right now then we have to buy more. I don't know the price yet. We can put some people up here and I'm (hopefully)sending a link to the nearest hotel, a Comfort Inn (http://www.comfortinn.com/ires/en-US/html/HotelInfo?hotel=GA581&promo=gglocal), if this doesn't work it is the Comfort Inn in Buford, Ga at 4951 Bristol Industrial Way, 678-730-5050, so just let me know who wants to stay here, or you all can all stay at the hotel and I'll keep all of the kids!!(I have a liquor store nearby!)

My Birthday

I'll be spending my birthday evening at Jalisco's Mexican Buffet and anyone who can read this is invited! We'll be there at 7PM, (April 10th, of course. you knew that, right?). We spent most of the day Sat hiding out in the basement. Flowery Branch was in the path of 3 tornadoes, the worst of the storm was on the other side of 985 @ the Spout Springs Exit, about 4 miles from our house. We did have some pretty bad storms with lots of hail!

Some will recognize...

Bradbury Idea

This may have already been considered but why don't we plan a Harvesters (circa 1970s) reunion at Bradbury. I know George Thacker is in Dayton and it shouldn't be hard to find Jimmy (unless there's bad blood). Any thoughts?

Basketball Season

Judy and I went to the twins last basketball. Once again they lost by 3 points. I believe they only won one game but as Addison put it, "we really learned a lot this year." They went straight from that game to softball sign-ups. Joel said they watched about 120 girls run , bat, etc. He was there 4.5 hours. Sounds like the big league to me.
Judy, Sara, Marty and I are gearing up for our cruise. Only 20 days til we set sail!!
Sara is out of work today because Roane County schools are closed due to illness.
Talked to Meemaw on Saturday, she seems to be doing fine.

Saturday

Coming back from a meeting in Pigeon Forge I stopped in Knoxville. It was a good move.

Saw the twins play their next to last game. They lost 35-31, but were in it until the very end. The girls scores 7 points between them.

But then the big news. Joel ask me if I wanted to go to 5 Guys for my birthday. We went and he bought my hot dog and fires. Then we all went to Baskin Robbins and had ice cream. I was thinking it was nice of Joel to ask me to go with him to 5 Guys and then I though of Ray!

Joyce and I then went to a friends house to watch the UT/Memphis game.
Had a good Saturday.

MEEMAW UPDATE

Just talked to Meemaw, she seems to being doing very well. She had called Pappy and said they had a very nice phone conversation. She also said she has an "appointment" at the Senior Center in the morning. She said she is going to start with their exercise program and then she what else she likes. Said she had talked to Emily this week and that all the Boone Reagan's had been sick. Said she wouls see us all the weekend of February 15th.

If you have diabeetis

This is dedicated to all those with the Beetis...Wilford rocks!

What time is it? Valentimes

So what's the Valentine's situation? Is that day (of Joyce's Big Bash on Feb. 16) also a Bradbury day?

We may come in. I have to check with my womens. Should we bring something for the party? Will Earl dress as cupid?

Meemaw wants to move more stuff from her trailer so any help will be appreciated.

Other then that — she is doing well. Only smokes about 3-4 cigs a day and I haven't seen her smoke any in public or at my house. We saw Chinese acrobats at ASU Saturday and she seems to be getting out. I wish she would meet some new people but it's hard to get her to the senior center. Maybe some of you could mention that to her when she phones???

Movie Suggestions

Mostly for Judy's "Netflix" queue, but everyone should see these.

Coffee and Cigarettes
A series of 11 shorts from director Jim Jarmusch. Crazy-awesome cast, including Roberto Benigni, Steven Wright, Steve Buscemi, Iggy Pop, and Bill Murray. Very funny in a subtle way.

Hot Fuzz
My favorite comedy ever. The same guys who did Shaun of The Dead. Hilarious.

Citizen Kane
A classic. Look at every film critic's top ten list. It's always on there.

Life is Beautiful (La Vita e Bella)
An Italian film (yes, it's subtitled) written by, directed by, and starring Roberto Benigni. This movie was only the second time someone had directed themselves in an Oscar-winning performance. A perfect example of a drama/comedy.

Little Miss Sunshine
A more recent example of a drama/comedy, and one of my favorite movies ever.

Also, Judy, Netflix has a good selection of music DVDs. For instance, they have all three of the Primus DVDs, which are great.

There's also this documentary I'm dying to see about Captain Beefheart, one of the most influential (and interesting) musicians of his time. Very eccentric person, one of the only true artists in music. Actually, "Simpsons" creator, Matt Groening, is a big fan of his.

So, there's a bunch of things to watch. They're all great.

Love @ Bradbury

I just realized that we will prob be in town on Bradbury wkend in Feb. So I think our theme that show should be "Love is in the Air". We could sing " My Funny Valentine", "Love Stinks"..... Also everyone would have to wear pink.

We have to move further South to get any snow, this is actually a picture from channel 11 in Atlanta, we had more snow on the roads than they did. Hall Co. school were closed b4 we went to bed last night. We had about a little over an inch on the ground and about 1/2 inch on the roads. The boys only have half a day tomorrow and they are off on Mon.

Andrea made a dvd of the tubing trip. I will get her to post some pictures. Lesbian count was way down from last trip (do they hibernate?).

Flowery Branch,GA

Joyce, Sara and I visited the Burnetts this week-end. Mr. Ray outdid himself exposing his "tour" talents. I lost count of how many different cities we visited (and true to form ,we ate in every one). Not to mention the Falcon's training camp.
Corey won his ballgame, and played an impressive game during the 3rd and 4th quarters.
We all loved Larry's Biscuits, that was my first one and I'll never forget it.
And Coco was just the most charming host, he kept track of everyone and made sure there were enough chew toys around if you might need one.
Made it home in time to see Peyton lose a game and Eli win a game. What a week-end!
