Christmas

Pappy has requested that we not have the "White Elephant" type gift exchange this year. His reason being "We all are getting along so well, I don't want any feelings hurt and this is just too good of an opportunity for someone to get their feelings stepped on". I personally don't think anyone has gotten their feelings hurt during our gift exchanges, we realize it's all in fun. You might end up with the most coveted present or with something that's been re-gifted. So I guess we're up for suggestions on gifts. I'm picking up small, inexpensive gifts for everyone ( spending more on the kids and Memaw and Pappy) which range from salt shakers to steering wheel covers. But I enjoy doing it and Walmart and the Dollar General store love to see me coming. Earl always knows what he's getting from me...good ol' Olvatine. It's our Christmas tradition.

Special Anaranjado del Flor

So I'm out to dinner with my friend Cierra at On The Border, munchin' on a burrito, when a mariachi band walked through the door. Apparently, some mexican kid rented them for his birthday party. They do some standards ("La Bamba", "La Cucaracha") and then, surprisingly, they go into "Orange Blossom Special".

Bradbury in a mexican restaurant.

It was weird.

P.S. We went and saw "Role Models" afterwards. I give it a 8/10

Once I found out Web site registration was only $10, I couldn't resist buying my own name and linking it to a free blogger site (for now). Check out jasonreagan.com. I have no real plans for it now but, like a prospector buying a claim site, you never know what you might dig up in the future. The header photo was taken in front of my house in the 1920s. I just thought it was cool.

The Kinks Possibly Reuniting

I know Earl is a Kinks fan so I thought I'd share this.

"The Kinks start work on comeback

The Kinks have begun writing new songs ahead of a possible reunion, singer Ray Davies has said.

"We've started a little bit of this and that," he told BBC News. But it is too early to judge the quality, he said.

"It depends if there's good music. We want good new music. I'd like to do it as a more collaborative thing than we used to do."

The Kinks were one of the most popular and influential bands of the 1960s, and last performed together in 1996.

In September, Davies said any reunion would also depend on the health of bandmate and brother Dave, who suffered a stroke in 2004. But Dave is currently well, the singer said.

Duets album

The Kinks were responsible for classic '60s hits like You Really Got Me, Sunny Afternoon, Waterloo Sunset and All Day And All Of The Night.

Ray Davies would have to fit a reunion around his solo US tour, an album with a choir and a further album of collaborations.

He is aiming to duet with a range of artists, including Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell, Snow Patrol and some previously unknown talents.

"I don't just want to do usual suspects," he said. "I'd love to do something with Johnny, but I'd like to find new bands. Unsigned even. I usually like the underdogs."

He is also hoping to enlist rock 'n' roll pioneer Chuck Berry.

"I've never met the man but he was one of my heroes as a lyricist," he said. We'll see how it works out - a mixture of Snow Patrol and Chuck Berry. It should be an interesting record." "

First post in FOREVER

I haven't posted anything in a really long time, so I figured I'd chat a little bit with you and maybe share a few photos.

Let's see...hmmmmm....school! Yes! I go to school. Its EASY. Well, for now anyway. I go to Spanish every Monday and Wednesday from 2:40 PM til 4:30 and Music Appreciation Thursdays from 7:00 PM 'til 9:30 (I miss "The Office"!!!) Both classes are easy, with very competent and easy-going teachers. It doesn't hurt that I already had a very good basic knowledge of both subjects.

I recently acquired a second guitar from an antique store, but didn't realize at the time it was JACKED UP! See below:

Now, I'm no expert on guitars, but I'm fairly certain my bridge shouldn't be angled that way. Definitely makes it impossible to tune. So I'm gonna see if Pappy can do something about it. Here's a pic of the guitar with my foot in there for scale:

Speaking of guitars, I go to concerts sometimes!!!

October 18th. Buckethead and That 1 Guy

October 25th. Portugal The Man

Yeah, them was some good shows.

Now, some random photos.

Me and Cozmo at a Dishwater Blonde show

Who is this masked man?

Excited at the Buckethead show

Waiting in anticipation of Portugal The Man

I realize the website cuts some of these pics off because they're so big, but you should be able to right-click and view the image.

Ok, I think I'm done for tonight. Hope you enjoyed this random blog.

Later,

Tyler

Fall Meet

Keeneland was as beautiful as ever, although the crowd was not up to what we've seen in past visits. Rich and Bobbi Avery traveled with us to London where we ate at the great Mexican Restaurant in front of Days Inn. We arrived at Keeneland between 9:30 and 10:00 AM and immediately got our programs. It's such fun being the instructor when your guests have never attended horse racing. Between the Breeder's Cup races and the live Keeneland races we sat through 16 races Saturday and pretty much placed bets on all of them. Todd was our biggest winner, $38.60 return on a $2.00 bet and recouped all of his initial betting with a profit of $23.00. I didn't do as well, but did win $22.00 on the last Breeder's Cup race. Lots of exciting moments... #7 horse with 65 to 1 odds led the entire race, falling back to 4th in the last 5 seconds, Todd had bet him to win. And then Dr. Pleasure with jockey Otto took a tumble after the last turn. The horse immediately jumped up but Otto lay there for a good while before getting back on his feet. The Averys stayed in Lexington the entire weekend visiting some of the more famous, local horse farms. But I think they're hooked, their opinion of Keeneland being " even if you never bet on one horse, Keeneland is worth the drive".

Meemaw Update

Meemaw seems to be doing better. Have talked to her a couple of times today. Latest news is that her furnace isn't turning on, but the heating guy is coming out tomorrow and she has a couple of little heaters. I am taking lunch over tomorrow after physical therapy. I am also checking on exercise at the community center and hospital to see what is available.
Judy deserves the Reagan Badge of Courage for the last few days. Everything fell on her and she got her and meemaw both through. Of course we may be concerned with Judy's drug use after last week!!
I am a little concerned that a week with Jennifer put Meemaw in the hospital, we may have to think before her next visit.
Pappy continues to call me everyday so that I know he is ok.
