Christmas

Pappy has requested that we not have the "White Elephant" type gift exchange this year. His reason being "We all are getting along so well, I don't want any feelings hurt and this is just too good of an opportunity for someone to get their feelings stepped on". I personally don't think anyone has gotten their feelings hurt during our gift exchanges, we realize it's all in fun. You might end up with the most coveted present or with something that's been re-gifted. So I guess we're up for suggestions on gifts. I'm picking up small, inexpensive gifts for everyone ( spending more on the kids and Memaw and Pappy) which range from salt shakers to steering wheel covers. But I enjoy doing it and Walmart and the Dollar General store love to see me coming. Earl always knows what he's getting from me...good ol' Olvatine. It's our Christmas tradition.

Yeah, I can see where Pappy's coming from. Maybe we can do something else. Anybody know another, less competitive holiday game?

Our plan was to give everyone a photo card (of everyone's favorite happy family) with a message stating that each of us — Jason, Stacy, Justin and Shelby — took a set amount of money and gave it to one of four charities we each researched. I'm leaning toward Relief International. I think Shelby is looking at a cancer-research org for kids. We had planned to get the kids a gift as usual (yes, Tyler you are still a kid).

Perhaps we could take off on Judy's idea. How about this? We buy kitschy presents that must come from the Dollar General or Dollar Tree.

Then, we have a contest to see who bought the most gaudy or tasteless (within reason) gift?

Another idea: We each buy a small but useful gift from same store and put together a basket to be given to the local whatever agency (homeless, Sal Army, etc.)

Jeff Givens with Aramark uniform service is quite a talker and while discussing Christmas traditions, he said his family did a "ugly sweater contest". Everyone votes for the ugliest sweater worn by family members at the family Christmas gathering and whoever wins the vote gets a door prize.
What was the charitable agency that George Castanza gave donations to as Christmas gifts?
Pappy did say he had his Christmas shopping done, he'd mailed his check to St. Jude's.
One other idea for our Christmas party, Jennifer wants us to go caroling from the hay wagon. Have Pappy bring tractor, wagon with some hay for comfort and carol some of the close houses around Bradbury. The kids would love it and the grown ups will feel like kids again.

I vote for the Ugly Sweater Contest AND go caroling in Bradbury!
