MEEMAW UPDATE

So.... Meemaw just called me and I believe called Joel and Judy also. Janie has been to the house this AM to get $200. They had given her over $700 just 3 days ago. Meemaw says she looked really, really bad (surprise, surprise). She told Meemaw that she was going to move in with them. So Meemaw says she has to find a place to live. I told her that I would help her, but not in Kingston. I think I convinced her that Janie would not leave her alone if she stays local. She says she will call Jason to see if that house is still available. I also told her that if she doesn't make this move, she will just have to tolerate Janie without much sympathy from me. The she said so "I'll just leave Pappy in the middle of all this." I told her that was a decision that Pappy had already made, by offering to give Janie a place to live. I told her to just tell Pappy that her health will not survive Janie on a full time basis and that he will have to give her enough money to live somewhere else.

I know we have said that Meemaw has been so wishy washy on this moving thing that we were finished with her "plans", but I am going to make every effort to help her do this. That will probably mean a few trips to Boone or wherever to get her settled somewhere. If she balks on this, then I REALLY don't know what to do.

Stacy has a colleague who has one floor of her spacious house for rent. It might be ideal. But Meemaw has to make a decision and be willing to stick with it for awhile.

Random thoughts:

1. Finding a doctor should be no problem — plenty of them specialize in gerontology what with the influx of wealthy Floridian grays.

2. The local hospital has a top-rated cancer center.

3. We have a few neighbors Meemaw's age that have had similar experiences, age who might make good friends.

4. One thing I will try to do if she lives here is get her involved in some kind of limited fitness program. Part of her problem is she doesn't do anything but sit and brood.

That's my feeling exactly, if she is going to escape Janie and the trailer, she has to make a decision to actually do it. I tried to reassure her that we would take care of her getting moved, I think that weighs heavy on her mind, and also about the utilities, etc on the trailer. I have told her that utilities on that trailer (empty) will be minimal. But she has to decide. Jason/Stacy call her and discuss, so we can move ahead. Thanks

Meemaw just called again, she has been in contact with Emily, who called Janie and a result of that is that Janie is coming down tomorrow to stay "a couple of nights with Pappy". Meemaw called me to see if she could stay with me and Earl for a couple of nights because she doesn't want to be there when Janie is.She said she would be there in the morning.
She was clattering a mile a minute and going over all the same stuff she talked abot an hour ago.

I only called mom to question her (again) on why she was taking so much money and because Meemaw was concerned about the way she looked. I never would have called her if I thought that she was gonna go down there again...

Should I call Meemaw or wait for her to call?

I know you were only trying to do the right thing. It seems there isn't a right thing. Who would have thought that Janie would decide the timing was right for coming for a visit?? Do you think she is just visiting or moving in?

Call her now, don't wait.

I talked to Judy earlier and then called Meemaw to see if she told me anything..because sometimes she doesn't mention it..but she told me everything..she's at the end of her mental rope, I think...I think she understands that distance is the best thing right now..because there is no end in sight...she sounded like she is def. ready to move away..she did say she wanted to talk to Emily to see if she could shed any light on Janie's financial situation....

Yeah, I talked to Emily, she called Janie because she was so worried about her physical appearance, etc. Janie told Emily that she was going to file bankruptcy,(again I guess) but told her it would cost her 3000 or 4000 to do so! If most people had that kind of money would they use it to file ?

My understanding of bankruptcy is there is a filing fee but it can be waived. $3,000 sounds way out of line. Tennessee has a system of legal aid whereby attorneys will take case pro bono and charge little or no fee.

John Agee or Dick Evans may know of such attorneys.

Janie has threatened the bankruptcy thing over and over. Even to the point of saying she was talking to a lawyer. All of these are just manipulating Memaw, knowing that Memaw will keep that cash coming if she thinks Janie is moving in.I don't expect her to come down, she got her cash why would she waste gas? Somebody explain to me what kind of fear Janie has the power to create in this situation. I don't get it.I guess my biggest fear if in Memaw's shoes would be some of Janie's druggy friends would follow her to Buck Creek.

I don't believe her either, Ju Ju. Before when she said she talked to a lawyer, she said they told her it would be $1500...I can't even speculate about her anymore. Meemaw said that you guys were wanting to meet with me or something? The sooner the better...
